51 million 🌳

Have you heard of Wangari Maathai?
In her lifetime of 71 years, she...
Organised a campaign that planted 51million trees.
Founded the Green Belt Movement in Kenya.
Empowered women to conserve their environment and improve their livelihoods.
Restored degrading landscapes and ecosystems.
Actively worked to improve diplomatic relations.
Was the first East African woman to earn her PhD and became the first female professor in Kenya.
And as if all that wasn't enough...
She was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.
An amazing woman all round 🤩
But we often don't have to look so far to see amazing women in our own lives - mums, grandmas, aunts, wives, girlfriends, sisters, friends, colleagues, nieces, daughters and granddaughters all have inspiring stories of their own.
This week's letter is sandwiched between International Women's Day and Mother's Day so a perfect time to celebrate all the women in your lives 🥰
The drawing for this print (above) was inspired by my visit to Nairobi National Park and seeing the beauty of Kenya that Wangari Maathai worked so hard to protect 😍
Until next time,
