Time travelling back to 18th century China

Time travelling back to 18th century China

Once upon a time in China there were Emperors who loved opulent gifts.

One of their favourite items to receive were Zimingzhong - musical, mechanical, intricately designed clocks.

Often glittering in gold and blue with stunning enamel and inlay detail, these pieces were initially made in Britain and exported to China where they were carried into the Forbidden City in a procession of gifts - often with multiple people carrying one clock due to their immense size!

Entering the Zimingzhong: Clockwork Treasures From China's Forbidden City exhibition at the Science Museum in London and seeing the clocks in their cabinets, I was immediately taken back to the 1700s and felt like they were waiting to be collected and carried into the Forbidden City.

Join me as I create a virtual reality painting and travel back in time to deliver the precious and opulent Zimingzhong to the Emperor.

Until next time,
