Tonga Diaries - The Science 🔬
Share
My poor nieces are knee deep in exams and revision. (Good luck girls! 🫀)
In an attempt to be a good aunt, I too have been doing my science homework as a show of solidarity....
...plus the expedition is now only 2 weeks away so, no time like the present!
Whilst we are out in Tonga, we will be researching and gathering plastic pollution data from the water, the shore and further in land.
To prepare, we have online training to teach us about the field methods eXXpedition use and also background reading about Tonga with local expert knowledge.
The Circularity Informatics Lab at the University Of Georgia are the ones who will be using the data we gather for their larger research study so they have prepared the training for the crew.
They have also built the Debris Tracker app that we will be using to log the data.
And you can have a go too!
You don't need to be in Tonga or on one of the eXXpedition voyages.
You can just download the app, walk around your local area, log what litter you find and just like that contribute to the open data citizen science movement.
I will be doing a dry run in my local area before I go!
A huge thank you to all my sponsors, I am so grateful for your generous donations <3
If you would like to support me on this voyage, you can find out more about eXXpedition, our work and make a donation here. Thank you!
Until next time,
Pallavi
