Wimbledon Whites Meets Strawberries and Cream #OOTD
Share
It is the Wimbledon finals this weekend and have you ever wondered why the athletes' dress code is all white?
The first Wimbledon tournament was held 148 years ago in 1877 and at that time there was a proper etiquette for everything and sweaty stains were a definite no no. Coloured clothing made sweat more obvious but white reduced it's visibility - much more appropriate for the genteel 1800s.
Wimbledon is very much known for its traditions so despite the advances in moisture wicking and fabric technology, the tennis whites dress code remains to this day.
And why are they always serving strawberries and cream?
That's simple, because from the start Wimbledon has coincided with local strawberry season and strawberries are the perfect, sweet, juicy, refreshing snack.
For some genteel inspiration for your next sweaty sporting activity (or, more pressingly, the current sweltering heatwave) here's our Wimbledon inspired tennis whites outfit of the day #OOTD, styled with our Gallivanters' CC Hawaii Hibiscus Oversized T-shirt.
Until next time,
